0.001%<\/strong> – less than this percentage of T&T\u2019s deep waters have been explored due to limited financial and technological capacity.<\/p>

28th<\/sup> June to 29th<\/sup> July<\/strong>, this changes: \u2018Deep Wonders of T&T\u2019 a deep-sea scientific expedition led by local NGO SpeSeas will take place.<\/p>

1st<\/sup> ever exploration<\/strong> of the deep waters of T&T led by local scientists.\u00a0 Marine biologist Dr. Diva Amon of SpeSeas is the Chief Scientist of this expedition.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

2000 metres<\/strong> \u2013 below these depths have never been explored by scientists.<\/p>

451 marine species<\/strong> have already been observed in T&T\u2019s deep seas.<\/p>

1600<\/strong> \u2013 it is estimated more than this number of species exist, waiting to be discovered.<\/p>

93% of T&T\u2019s waters<\/strong> consists of the mesophotic zone (30\u2013199 m) and the deep ocean (200-4000 m).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This project will create a lasting scientific foundation for the stewardship of T&T\u2019s mesophotic and deep-sea ecosystems.<\/strong><\/p>
