Why you might ask?
Well, this is the first-ever locally-led deep-sea scientific expedition in Trinidad & Tobago’s waters. It aims to explore, document, and gain a better understanding of mesophotic and deep-sea ecosystems within Trinidad and Tobago’s waters and the adjacent high seas – environments that remain largely unseen and unknown despite making up >93% of our marine territory.
We are nine days in, and the science just keeps delivering. Every dive has the potential to reveal something the world has never seen before. 🌊 Potentially new species, new ecosystems and new understanding: scientists on board are leading the way in Caribbean marine research, using cutting-edge technology to explore some of our region’s least understood places.
