Interactive webinar highlights practical pathways for strengthening Trinidad and Tobago’s National Monitoring and Evaluation System.
Have you ever been immersed in a branching narrative or gamebook where you interact with the story and choose your own destiny?
This was the approach taken by the National Transformation Unit, as they hosted an interactive webinar on June 3rd, 2026, as part of Glocal Evaluation Week 2026, bringing together public sector practitioners, development partners and international experts to examine practical approaches to strengthening Trinidad and Tobago’s national monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system.
Participants got to make decisions on what they would do along the M&E adventure and explain their choices. This made for an engaging, involved session bringing everyone into the action.

Titled From Insights to Action – Strengthening Trinidad and Tobago’s National M&E System, the webinar moved beyond traditional presentations to an interactive format. Participants were invited to engage directly in shaping the discussion by voting on strategic choices reflecting key areas of M&E system strengthening. After each vote, selected participants shared their reasoning before the results were revealed, creating a participatory dialogue that guided the flow of the session.
Moderated by Mr. Andrew Spencer, Programme Coordinator, Implementation from the NTU, the panel discussion was centered on M&E system strengthening initiatives and featured contributions from 5 experts. Mrs. Lisa Goonai-Nanan, Senior M&E Specialist from the NTU, shared the features of the draft new M&E policy being developed for the public sector of T&T which will guide M&E practitioners in standardizing approaches to M&E. Ms. Marissa Archibald, Implementation Coordinator also from the NTU, explained how COMETT – the Community of Practice in Monitoring and Evaluation for Trinidad and Tobago – is providing opportunities for knowledge sharing and peer learning amongst public servants.

Ms. Thania de la Garza, and Mr. Alonso de Erice, international evaluation specialists, shared strategic insights and recommendations for strengthening the national M&E system from the recently concluded Monitoring and Evaluations Systems Analysis Plus (MESA+) Project in T&T. Ms. Shantal Aragón, Director of Evidence Use, from the Centre for Learning on Evaluation and Results for Latin America & the Caribbean (CLEAR LAC) and Senior Training and Education Manager, from the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, Latin America & the Caribbean (J-PAL LAC), shared plans for a series of system strengthening activities under a technical assistance initiative sponsored by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and CLEAR LAC.
