"Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."
This is the theme for World Environment Day 2026.
On June 5, Trinidad and Tobago rallies with other nations across the world around the urgency of climate action in commemoration of World Environment Day.
However, the Ministry of Planning, Economic Affairs & Development, which has responsibility for the mandate of Environment & Climate Change in T&T has been taking action through our Environmental Departments, Agencies and Partners throughout the year.
- Our Environmental Policy & Planning Division (EPPD) has met 78% of targets to reduce ozone depleting chemicals while also working on biodiversity, climate change, marine clean up and more.
- The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) is taking steps to conserve designated Environmentally Sensitive Species (ESS) and Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESA).
- The Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) is developing creative ways to manage the influx of sargassum on our shores.
- BCRC-Caribbean is working on projects to sustainably manage waste and chemicals for the protection of human health and the environment in the region.
- We collaborated with the EU and the UNDP to install solar photovoltaic panels across communities and organisations in T&T.
“Our natural resources are a primary driving engine for economic transformation with opportunities in agriculture, tourism and career paths focusing on managing our environment.”
Planning, Economic Affairs and Development Minister Kennedy Swaratsingh, who has the responsibility for the environment, expressed the Trinidad and Tobago government’s commitment to sustainable use of the nation’s environmental resources.
The Minister has stated that all aspects of human well-being depend on ecosystem goods and services, which are driven by the activity of flora and fauna. Therefore, Minister Swaratsingh added that we will continue to take Climate Action, placing nature at the center of our national solutions and doing our best to expedite repair of our relationship with the Earth’s climate.
