US $1.2 million environmental agreement signed

The Honourable Camille Robinson-Regis and UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Richard Blewitt signed the documents initiating a project entitled “Capacity Development for improved management of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) for Global Environmental Benefits.” This project is being funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in the sum of US$1.2 million from the period September 2017- August 2020.  This signing took place on Tuesday July 11, 2017 at the Eric Williams Finance Building.

Trinidad and Tobago stands to benefit from the re-structuring of organizational relationships, strengthened partnerships, relationships and commitments, and improved coordination and collaboration among civil society organisations (CSOs), non-governmental organisations and government agencies to address global environmental concerns.

Project resources will be used to support activities to better align projects funded by the Green Fund TT with the implementation of MEAs obligations in Trinidad and Tobago; hence contributing to national environmental benefits and by extension to global environmental benefits. The project will seek to increase the effectiveness of this unique national environmental funding mechanism by unleashing its funding potential. Activities supported by the project will strengthen the technical capacity of the Green Fund Executing Unit (GFEU) and the capacity of CSOs to access project funding from the GFTT.
